I guess you could say I'm reaching the end of the "Honeymoon phase". On Orientation Day they said this would happen after a few days. I mean, I still appreciate the historical sights and I enjoy walking around Alcalá, and today's classes were better than yesterday. But the excitement is starting to wear off a bit. (I'm sure a trip back to Madrid this Saturday will be a good pick-me-up though!) And who doesn't love a 3-day weekend? I don't know what I'm going to do tomorrow, without class to go to, and with my roommate going on a field trip... But maybe I can spend some quality time with "Madre Carmen." I also need to exchange some cash for Euros (still haven't done that... but it's been really helpful with saving money this week! because they won't take American money...) and I would like to go to the post office and buy some postcards! I can also probably get some reading done. Should be a pretty chill day.
(Also, since I don't have big plans for tomorrow, in tomorrow's blog post: pictures of my room! So don't touch that dial. ...whatever that means, right? haha just kidding.)
Here are a few more observations/facts:
1. the "salads" (or "ensaladas") here are interesting, but good! For example, yesterday we had a salad that consisted of lettuce, tomatoes, corn, tuna, and apples. I'm also noticing they don't use dressing... just olive oil! for pretty much everything. Today at lunch we had another salad (my favorite so far) with just tomatoes, onions, and green olives. (It was also the first time I have seen them use pepper!) But starting today, I actually do like green olives (I've always loved the black ones, but never cared for the green ones until now!)
2. I went on a run today... really just because my roommate wanted to run, and I didn't want her to have to go by herself. We found a park nearby and ran for 20 minutes. Let's just say, at least the scenery was pleasant! Even Spain doesn't decrease my dislike for running, unfortunately... but with the sights to see and the people-watching to do, I just don't think running in the U.S. is ever going to cut it... so I'll never run in Oklahoma again! (It's going to be a huge sacrifice, I know...)
3. speaking of running, it seems like here in Spain the people generally leave you alone. In the U.S. (or, at least, in Norman, Oklahoma), there are always people yelling at you when you run by or trying to give high fives or something. Even if they're not being creepy, they at least acknowledge you. But when we were running today, people pretty much ignored us. It was kinda nice.
4. I'm still loving the fact that naps are not only socially acceptable, they're expected. I don't know why it took me so long to come to a place like this. People GET me here, you know? (however, I realized today that I should probably try NOT to nap every single day... it's messing up my sleep schedule. Hence the reason I am again still awake at 1:00am. Not that that's anything new, come to think of it...)
5. I love Skype! I have talked to my Mom twice, my Dad once, and Colin twice. (Oh and when I'm talking to my mom and I call Bailey's name, she perks up her ears and gets confused, looking for me. kinda sad, poor little pup...). The more I talk to people, the more I miss them though... kind of a vicious cycle I guess.
6. Also, I found out today that I MIGHT have been drinking goat's milk this whole time without realizing it... there's no telling how much extra fat I have consumed. I think I'm going to decrease my milk intake the next couple of days... I felt a little sick this morning, and I'm thinking it's my body's reaction to milk that I'm not used to (I usually drink Skim--quite a jump between the two!)
Okay, enough for now I guess. Sorry, this post has probably been the most boring one of all... give me another chance tomorrow! Don't wanna lose any of my faithful readers... neither one of you. Lo siento.
¡ No comes los pepinos!
